Free video game 'Cadentia Farnese' lets players explore Rome's Palazzo Farnese

digital · 2026-04-26

The Italian studio We Are Muesli, in partnership with the French Embassy in Italy, has launched 'Cadentia Farnese,' a complimentary visual novel that delves into the history of Palazzo Farnese. Spanning over 1,800 years, the game showcases 12 illustrated scenes, ranging from mythology to contemporary times. Players engage with 11 non-linear scenes by rolling dice, featuring dialogues drawn from Giacomo Leopardi's 'Operette morali' (1835) and frescoes by Annibale and Agostino Carracci. A hidden scene ties together the entire experience. Created by We Are Muesli's Claudia Molinari and Matteo Pozzi, along with public historian Benedetta Pierfederici and others, the game can be accessed on Steam, itch.io, Google Play, and the App Store. Since 1874, Palazzo Farnese has served as the French Embassy.
