Free Home University Turns 10 with 'Learning Intentions/Learning in Tensions' Exhibition in Lecce

exhibition · 2026-04-26

Free Home University, an international anti-university based in Salento, celebrates its 10th anniversary with the exhibition 'Learning Intentions/Learning in Tensions' at the former church of San Francesco della Scarpa in Lecce. Curated by Alessandra Pomarico and Nikolay Oleynikov, the show is part of a broader program titled 'Learning Intentions/Learning in Tensions. Radical Pedagogies, Art, Community. 2014–2024 and Beyond,' running until March 8, 2025. The exhibition features ongoing, co-created works using recycled materials from past installations, involving artists, designers, and architects from the Russian collective Zi Group (based in Berlin) and Turkish artist Basak Tuna (based in Rome). It includes textile, film, and audiovisual works, murals, sculptures, a library, a radio studio, and a living archive. The project emphasizes circular knowledge, environmental sustainability, and critical perspectives on homogenizing social paradigms, inspired by Dewey's 'learning by doing' principle. The exhibition is organized in collaboration with the Polo Biblio-Museale di Lecce and builds on activities started in late 2023 at the Loop House residency in San Cesario di Lecce.
