Freddie Mercury Museum Opens in Zanzibar Birthplace
The Freddie Mercury Museum has opened in Zanzibar at the singer's birthplace, on the 28th anniversary of his death (November 24, 2019). Located on the ground floor of the Tembo House Hotel (formerly the Freddie Mercury House) in Stone Town, the museum features artifacts including his birth certificate, 100 exclusive photos, testimonies from close friends, and dedications. The initiative was led by Italian entrepreneur Andrea Boero and Zanzibari Javed Jafferji, with support from the Bulsara family, Queen, and friends. Mercury, born Farrokh Bulsara on September 5, 1946, in Zanzibar, emigrated to India as a child, returned briefly in 1963, then fled to London during the Zanzibar Revolution, where he co-founded Queen.
