Fratelli Toso glassworks exhibition at Casina delle Civette in Rome

exhibition · 2026-05-04

A traveling exhibition of Murano glass by Fratelli Toso has arrived at Casina delle Civette in Villa Torlonia, Rome, running through May. The show presents about fifty pieces from the company's vast private collection, many previously shown at the Venice Biennale, spanning from the 1930s—when the artistic-craft quality began to assert itself—to 1980, when the manufactory ceased operations. The venue, an eccentric Liberty-style villa, also houses a library of applied arts, particularly glass art. Highlights include works demonstrating the meticulous murrina technique, revived from a 15th-century tradition and a hallmark of the firm. Fratelli Toso was founded in 1854.
