François Pinault Collection Debuts at Palazzo Grassi in Venice
After abandoning plans for an art foundation on Île Seguin near Paris, François Pinault chose Venice to present his collection. The Palazzo Grassi, acquired by the businessman and entirely redesigned by Japanese architect Tadao Ando (originally selected for the Paris foundation project), hosts "Where are we going?" from April 30 to October 1. This selection of works from the Pinault collection (which includes over 2,000 modern and contemporary artworks) marks the first exhibition of about 200 pieces, curated by Alison Gingeras. She defines her approach as portraying a possible portrait of a major collector and showing how his choices align with the history of modern and contemporary art.
