François Hébel has been named the new artistic director of CAMERA – Centro Italiano per la Fotografia in Turin, succeeding Walter Guadagnini. Hébel will officially take office on November 1, 2025. The institution, which opened in autumn 2015 with over 2,000 square meters of exhibition space, celebrates its tenth anniversary this year. President Emanuele Chieli expressed gratitude to Guadagnini for his leadership since 2016, which established CAMERA as a reference point for photography in Italy. Guadagnini highlighted the collaborative effort to engage the public with historical and contemporary photography. Hébel, born in France in 1958, brings extensive experience: he was Director at Large of the International Center of Photography in New York (2024–2025), Director of the Fondation Henri Cartier-Bresson in Paris (2018–2022), Director of Les Rencontres de la Photographie in Arles for 15 editions (1986–1987 and 2001–2014), and Director of Magnum Photos Paris and International (1987–2000). He co-founded festivals such as Mois de la Photo du Grand Paris, Foto/Industria in Bologna, and Photo Spring in Beijing, and curated exhibitions for Palazzo Grassi, Grand Palais, and Bibliothèque Nationale de France.
