Franco-Tunisian artist Jean Paul Ganem creates edible land art at Brazilian farm
At Fazenda Serrinha in Bragança Paulista, Brazil, Franco-Tunisian artist Jean Paul Ganem unveiled 'Desenho Infinito,' drawing inspiration from the basket-weaving designs of the Kaingang indigenous people. This land art incorporates edible plants, vegetables, and medicinal herbs into the earth. Working alongside chef Bel Coelho, Ganem infused indigenous culinary elements into the project. The installation aims to foster land regeneration while bridging modern environmental perspectives with traditional culture. Under the direction of artist Fábio Delduque, the farm has focused on restoring degraded land for two decades. Planting commenced in March 2023, motivated by the pandemic and rising temperatures, with harvested vegetables utilized for consumption, sent to an organic cooperative, or donated. Ganem's creation is part of the Serrinha Sculpture Park, which includes works by artists such as Michelangelo Pistoletto.
