Franco Toselli's Portofranco Soft Revolution at Triennale Milano

exhibition · 2026-05-04

Since the late 1960s, Franco Toselli has been a pivotal presence in the Italian art scene through his galleries in Milan. Beginning in the 1990s, he initiated a series of exhibitions titled 'portofranco.' Currently, 'Portofranco Soft Revolution,' curated by Elena Pontiggia, is on display at the Triennale Milano, revisiting these earlier shows. Upon entering, visitors encounter a piano adorned with plush toys by Charlemagne Palestine, alongside Tony Cragg’s 1970s installation featuring a line of colorful toy cars on the floor. The exhibition showcases artists influenced by Salvo, Luigi Ontani, Alighiero Boetti, and others, presenting works such as paintings by Salvo, sculptures by Paola Pezzi, and photographs by Giorgio Colombo. Additionally, a display case features an invitation to the wedding of Carlo and Luisa Orsacchiotti, along with plush toys brought to Milan by Palestine. Over the years, Toselli has also welcomed a diverse group of artists, including Kazumasa Mizokami and Francesca Fornasari.
