Franco Pedacchia: architect of reverie and resistance

In an interview, Franco Pedacchia, an architect hailing from Greccio (Rieti), reflects on his five-decade-long career. He emphasizes the construction site as a realm for imaginative designs, prioritizing expressive forms over structural rigidity. During the 1970s, he served as an educator at the Istituto di Critica Operativa in Rome, where he worked alongside Bruno Zevi. In the 1980s, he partnered with Giuseppe Galasso on legislation concerning landscape heritage and held a position at MiBAC within the Soprintendenza del Molise. His prominent projects include the renovation of the Thomas Cook offices in Rome in 1974, the covering of San Michele church in Roccaravindola from 1992 to 1996, and the restoration of San Francesco church in Venafro between 1993 and 2007. He champions the creation of participatory and solidarity-driven spaces.
