Franco Noero closes Turin's Piazza Carignano space, expands with open-air garden

Franco Noero has closed his gallery space at Piazza Carignano 2 in Turin after four years, a decision accelerated by the Covid-19 pandemic. The 500-square-meter apartment, inaugurated in 2016 with a Lothar Baumgarten solo show and featuring a ceiling by Martino Gamper, was located opposite Italy's first parliament and next to Bar Cavour. The final exhibitions were a benefit show for Pianoterra Onlus curated by Damiana Leoni in February 2020 and a virtual solo by Sam Falls. Noero and partner Pierpaolo Falone will now focus on their space at Via Mottalciata, opened in 2013 in the Aurora district near Barriera di Milano. That space, described as a 'ruin rebuilt with our resources,' allows artists to redesign interiors freely. The gallery will add over 1,000 square meters of garden (partly covered) and storage 100 meters away for outdoor projects. Via Mottalciata reopens June 16 as part of TAG (Torino Art Galleries) collective opening with a Marepe show; Sam Falls' exhibition will be reprised in autumn outdoors in the new garden. Noero stated, 'the art system has already changed, the vortex of change has not stopped. I firmly believe in seeking each other out and working as a community.'
