Franco Menicagli's Decostructivist Sculpture at Villa Rospigliosi

Franco Menicagli's solo exhibition 'Ogni riferimento a persone o cose è puramente casuale' at Villa Rospigliosi in Prato presents a twenty-year survey of his sculptural practice, curated by Riccardo Farinelli and organized by ChorAsise. The show features works that deconstruct material and spatial meaning, including 'Espansioni' (2020/23), where polyurethane foam solidifies on reclaimed chairs, and 'Bonsai-Erbacce' (2023), tiny plasticine and synthetic fir sculptures camouflaged in the garden. In the family chapel, 'Blister' (2023) assembles transparent plastics on pedestals, lit by follow-spots, evoking trophies or reliquaries while maintaining an entropic balance between object and container. A publication edited by Metilene, with texts by Pietro Gaglianò, Martino Margheri, and Riccardo Farinelli, accompanies the exhibition and will be presented on March 10, 2024, at the show's close. Menicagli (born 1968 in Campiglia Marittima) aligns with postmodern decostructivism, echoing artists like Andy Warhol, William Kentridge, and thinkers such as William S. Burroughs, Lars von Trier, and John Cage, by stripping signifiers of meaning through material manipulation. The exhibition runs until March 10, 2024.
