Franco Lizza: A Notary's Contemporary Art Collection

Franco Lizza, a notary from Genoa born in 1984, has served as the treasurer for the Amici del Museo di Villa Croce since 2013. His artistic enthusiasm was passed down from his grandfather and father. In 2009, he began his own journey in contemporary art collecting, amassing around forty pieces, mainly installations and photographs from both Italian and international artists of his generation. His collection features notable names such as Luca Vitone, Moira Ricci, and Joan Jonas. Although Lizza introduced the term 'retro-collecting,' he seldom engages in it. He prioritizes emotional resonance in his selections, inspired by Heidegger's concept of revealing essence. His recent acquisitions include photography by Armin Linke and Lisetta Carmi, alongside sculptures by Alis/Filliol and Alice Ronchi. He keeps an eye on the Venice Biennale and Documenta, expressing interest in Giorgio Andreotta Calò and Adelita Husni-Bey for the Italian Pavilion.
