Franco Battiato's Philosophy Explored in New Graphic Novel

publication · 2026-04-27

A new graphic novel titled "La luce e lo spazio. Un’intervista a Franco Battiato" explores the philosophical universe of the late Italian singer-songwriter Franco Battiato. Published by Feltrinelli Comics and set for release on September 12, 2023, the book is an illustrated interview based on a real meeting between screenwriter and singer Francesco Pelosi and Battiato in the summer of 2014. Pelosi, together with illustrator Chiara Raimondi, adapted the interview into a comic format, with Raimondi using a unique technique of scanning a flashlight beam to create a mystical light effect. The graphic novel delves into themes of spirituality, meditation, and happiness, presenting Battiato's teachings as a disciple would from a guru. It also includes dialogues with Juri Camisasca, a longtime collaborator and friend of Battiato. The 128-page volume is priced at €18 and aims to capture the essence of Battiato's philosophical thought rather than serving as a biography or a purely artistic analysis.
