Franck Krawczyk's Metro Performance Precedes Boltanski Installation

festival-fair · 2026-04-23

On February 6, 2010, composer Franck Krawczyk (b. 1969) showcased Mahler's 3rd Symphony at the Champs-Élysées-Clemenceau station in Paris, performing from 6:30 to 7:30 PM. This event preceded the premiere of his piece Polvere that night within Christian Boltanski's installation Personnes at the Grand Palais. Having collaborated with Boltanski for over ten years, Krawczyk intended to engage the audience for the upcoming full composition. Polvere, a 50-minute piece featuring cellist Sonia Wieder-Atherton, timpani, and a string quartet, draws inspiration from a memory of Mount Vesuvius. Additionally, the Controtempo festival at Villa Medici in Rome took place from January 15 to 20, 2010, highlighting works by Michaël Lévinas, Yann Robin, and Raphaël Cendo. A reinstallation of the Boltanski/Krawczyk work is scheduled for Milan and New York later this year.
