Francisco Tropa's 'Arénaire' at Galerie Jocelyn Wolff
From April 26 to June 21, 2014, Galerie Jocelyn Wolff will host 'Arénaire,' the inaugural solo exhibition in Paris by Portuguese artist Francisco Tropa, who previously represented Portugal at the 2011 Venice Biennale. This exhibition delves into the emergence of objects, examining concepts of time and space through a blend of mythological, historical, and scientific references. A notable piece, also named 'Arénaire,' is a bronze casting of sand that encapsulates the vastness of Earth. Additionally, 'Terre platonique,' crafted during a 2013 residency in Murano, takes the form of an hourglass symbolizing black holes. Other featured works include a 2007 watercolor of footprints, 'Gigante' (2014) with bronze skeletal elements, and a small bronze bust, alongside a 'Lanterne' that casts shadows and incorporates a clock mechanism, highlighting Tropa's meticulous artistry.
