Francisco Brennand Exhibition Opens in Rio de Janeiro at Carpintaria
The exhibition titled 'Francisco Brennand: Um primitivo entre os modernos' was inaugurated at Carpintaria in Rio de Janeiro, running from February 19 to April 9, 2022. Curated by Julieta González, this display is a reimagined version following its debut at Gomide&Co in São Paulo. Brennand (1927-2019) characterized his work as both modern and ancient, emphasizing themes of ancestry and archetypes, particularly in ceramics. González points out Brennand's primitivist style, which stands in contrast to geometric abstraction. His creations merge human, plant, and animal motifs, exploring concepts of life and animism. This exhibition marks the 50th anniversary of Oficina Brennand, now recognized as an institute.
