Francis Bacon's rare rug designs discovered in Iranian dealer's collection

Two extremely rare rugs designed by Francis Bacon have been discovered in the collection of an Iranian dealer. The dealer acquired them several years ago from an elderly woman who had been using them as floor coverings in her hallway. These textiles feature Bacon's name woven directly into their designs. According to the Authentication Committee of Francis Bacon, these pieces might have been displayed in the artist's debut exhibition in 1929. Bacon created these rug designs while residing in a West London apartment shortly after being expelled from his family home. The market has never established a price for these works due to their extreme scarcity. The discovery was reported by The Times of London on March 2, 2009.
