Francis Alÿs Awarded Eye Art & Film Prize for Film-Visual Art Intersection
Belgian-born conceptual artist Francis Alÿs, who resides in Mexico, has been awarded the Eye Art & Film Prize, which honors innovative contributions that connect film and visual arts. This accolade comes with a monetary award of £25,000. Alÿs was chosen by an international jury led by Sandra den Hamer, the director of Amsterdam's Eye Filmmuseum. The jury also featured fashion designer and art collector Agnès B., Solange Farkas, director of Associação Cultural Videobrasil, Tate Modern's senior curator Andrea Lissoni, artists Aernout Mik and Apichatpong Weerasethakul, along with filmmaker-producer Olivia Stewart. Established in 2015 by the Eye Filmmuseum and the Paddy & Joan Leigh Fermor Arts Fund, the prize has previously honored Hito Steyerl (2015), Ben Rivers (2016), and Wang Bing (2017), whose works are currently exhibited at the Eye Filmmuseum until 27 May.
