Francesco Vezzoli's Opéra Pompidou Performance at Centre Pompidou's 40th Anniversary
For the 40th anniversary of the Centre Pompidou in 2017, the museum's Friends organization invited Francesco Vezzoli to orchestrate a series of performances on the modern art floor. In collaboration with Prada, Vezzoli created 12 costumes for the live performance Opéra Pompidou. Singers, performers, and musicians from the Opéra National de Paris, all dressed in Prada, performed before artworks. Vezzoli stated that the opera singers express love to the subjects painted by great masters, as if time moved backward and figures like the Marchesa Casati and Niki de Saint Phalle wore their most audacious clothes. The event coincided with FIAC week, placing Paris at the center of the global art world. Entry cost 100 euros, including cocktail and after-party.
