Francesco Vezzoli curates Museion's annual thematic show in Bolzano

Francesco Vezzoli, described as the most appreciated Italian artist abroad of his generation, has been selected by Museion in Bolzano to curate the museum's annual thematic exhibition for 2016. The opening is scheduled for January 29, 2016, at 7 PM. The exhibition spans two floors: one floor presents works from the museum's permanent collection juxtaposed with pieces from different eras, styles, and messages—for example, Arnulf Rainer's painting paired with the frame of Francesco Hayez's 'The Kiss'. The other floor hosts Vezzoli's first retrospective of sculptures produced in recent years, incorporating historical artifacts up to 2000 years old recontextualized in a contemporary setting. Past guest curators for this series include Rein Wolfs (now director of the Kunst und Ausstellungshalle der Bundesrepublik Deutschland), Carol Yinghua Lu and Liu Ding (both critics and curators), and Pierre Bal-Blanc (director of the Contemporary Art Center of Bretigny, Greater Paris, and part of Documenta 14's curatorial team). Vezzoli's pop approach to installation is highlighted in a trailer summarizing his intentions for the collaboration.
