Francesco Gennari's Artist Book Published by Skira

Nearly a year after Francesco Gennari's exhibition at GAMeC in Bergamo, Skira has released a standalone artist book that transcends a mere exhibition catalog. The volume features unpublished essays by curator and GAMeC director Lorenzo Giusti, Mouna Mekouar, and Petter Snare. Giusti's essay, titled after a work Gennari made twenty-five years ago, explores the autobiographical yet not intimate dimension of the artist's research, referencing the Socratic 'Know thyself' and questioning 'Which I? Which self?'. The book is a luxurious object with a dark green velvet cover reminiscent of old English cars, printed on various glossy and matte papers to enhance the images. Gennari's work, born in 1973, presents a multifaceted identity through drawings, visual essays, and self-portraits, offering continuous reflections on existence and the self in relation to others.
