Francesco De Grandi's Decade of Painting at Galleria Civica di Trento

The exhibition 'Il sacrificio del miele' at Galleria Civica di Trento presents ten years of Francesco De Grandi's work, curated by Gabriele Lorenzoni. The show gives equal weight to large narrative canvases and an extensive graphic corpus, challenging market-driven hierarchies in contemporary art. De Grandi, born in Palermo in 1968, blends contemporary concerns with tradition, creating choral narratives rich in historical references. The entry piece, 'Medea nel giardino di Colchide' (2023), depicts a young Medea in a fantastical garden holding a serpent. 'L’Atlante di anatomia immaginaria' (2018) reworks anatomical plates into grotesque allegories of current events. 'Tavolo delle Idee Sacre' (2012-2018) is an installation of drawings spanning art history citations to vernacular imagery. The site-specific 'Disegno Sogni' (2024), drawn with the left hand, depicts an ouroboros-like swordfish, embracing fragility. Other works include 'L’entrata di Cristo a Palermo' (2015-2017), referencing James Ensor, and the new 'Onofrio Zoroastro' (2024). 'Porziuncola' (2019) shows the ruined chapel with contemporary figures, linking history and present. The exhibition runs at Galleria Civica di Trento.
