Francesco Cattani's 'Notte Rosa' collects a decade of furious comics

publication · 2026-04-27

Francesco Cattani (Bologna, 1980) has released 'Notte Rosa', an anthology of comics originally published in magazines around the 2010s. The book gathers grotesque, dreamlike stories blending pop culture, consumer society, and myth, with influences ranging from Goya to Walt Disney, Bach, and Fabri Fibra. Cattani describes the work as a 'reportage of a state of inner fury', created during a period of precarity and rage. The collection was assembled with friends Alessio Trabacchini and Ratigher. Cattani, who won the Micheluzzi and Romics awards for best book with his previous graphic novel 'Luna del mattino', sees drawing as a form of therapy, often starting with a blank page and letting figures emerge to decipher his life. The book is published by Coconino Press (Rome, 2020, 160 pp., €22).
