Francesco Cascino Remembers Artist Nino Mustica

Francesco Cascino writes a personal tribute to Nino Mustica, an Italian artist who has died. Cascino describes Mustica as a father, master, and true friend who profoundly shaped his life. Mustica was reserved and shunned the limelight, unlike Cascino. He had a keen eye for quality, choosing every piece of modern design in his Milan loft, where he hosted friends for forty years. Mustica transformed his painterly visions into habitable forms, anticipating architecture and urban planning. In 1999, outside the Pantheon in Paris during an exhibition, Mustica urged Cascino to quit his corporate job and work in the art world. Cascino did so a month later. Mustica changed thinking about painting from 1996 onward, according to Cascino, who compares him to Leonardo da Vinci, noting that da Vinci lacked the 3D printers Mustica had to realize his architectural dreams.
