Francesco Bongiorni: Gold Medal from Society of Illustrators for Atlas of Mysterious Places

Francesco Bongiorni, born in Milan in 1984, has been awarded the gold medal from the Society of Illustrators of New York for his book "Atlante dei luoghi misteriosi dell'antichità" (Bompiani, 2020), having previously won silver in 2018. His exhibition "Francesco Bongiorni. Forme per contemplare l’inenarrabile" opened on November 3, 2022 at CE Contemporary gallery in Milan, curated by Christine Enrile and Rebecca Piva, running until February 28, 2023. The show surveys his first fifteen years of activity. Bongiorni grew up in a family of artists and studied visual arts at NABA in Milan, later taking a course at IED taught by Marco Ventura and Alessandro Gottardo. He collaborates with writer Massimo Polidoro on illustrated atlases of mysterious places in Italy and antiquity. His illustrations aim to convey personal emotion rather than objective reality, as seen in his recent design for Lemonsoda collector cans evoking Italian landmarks. He now lives in Spain.
