Francesco Bertocco's Film on Chilean Medicine at MA*GA
Francesco Bertocco's latest film, centered on inequality in Chilean healthcare, is part of his solo exhibition "Historia" at Museo MA*GA in Gallarate, running until August 1, 2021. The exhibition includes video works and a photographic series. Produced for the seventh edition of Italian Council, promoted by the Direzione Generale Creatività Contemporanea of the Italian Ministry of Culture and produced by Viafarini with curatorial collaboration by Mariagrazia Muscatello, the show is curated by Alessandro Castiglioni. It explores the history of Chilean medicine through key events of the second half of the 20th century, creating a dialogue between Italy and Chile in collaboration with MAC and Museo de la Quimica e de la Farmacia in Santiago. Bertocco's research involved studying the Mapuche and Aymara peoples, their traditional medicine, and the elitist foundations of Chilean medical institutions established by Nazis fleeing Europe. The project also engages with philosopher Diana Aurenque Stephan and filmmaker Tiziana Panizza. A collective publication is planned for September, including a fictional text by Bertocco about the desert hospital of Pisagua, a former concentration camp under Pinochet. The exhibition also features earlier works: "Affective Sciences" (2017), "Onde" (2014), and "Setting" (2012).
