Francesco Bellina's Niger Migration Photos at Sabir Festival

exhibition · 2026-05-04

Francesco Bellina, a 29-year-old photographer from Palermo, has achieved global acclaim for his work on migration, with publications in Paris Match, The Guardian, RSI, La Repubblica, L'Espresso, and Internazionale. He has also collaborated with the WHO and UNHCR. On October 6, during the International Congress on Migration in Noto, the MSE Research Center will present him with a grant for a five-year study focused on the trafficking of women from sub-Saharan Africa to Europe, which includes trips to Ghana, Benin, and Nigeria. His exhibition "Tanakra," featuring 23 photographs from migrant routes in Agadez, Niger, will be displayed at the Zisa in Palermo as part of the Sabir festival, alongside journalist Giacomo Zandonini. Smugglers, facing pressure from the Algerian army and Western forces, are now looking for European funds for retraining. "Tanakra" translates to "to rise again."
