Francesco Barocco's Third Way Between Sculpture and Drawing

exhibition · 2026-05-04

Italian artist Francesco Barocco (born 1972 in Susa) presents a new solo exhibition at Norma Mangione gallery in Turin, moving away from the low reliefs of his 2015 show and 2017 Paris Internationale stand. His current works are plaster sculptures, roughly modeled and sharply cut at the front, onto which he applies graphite drawings of faces. The drawings do not continue the sculpture but rest on the white surface without merging. Graffiti-like marks add further complexity, scratching both the plaster and the drawing with mysterious messages. The exhibition marks a coherent evolution in Barocco's sculptural practice, exploring the boundary between two-dimensional and three-dimensional representation.
