Francesco Arena's La Grotta inaugurates Ipogea in Parabita
Francesco Arena, born in 1978 in Torre Santa Susanna, has unveiled La Grotta, the first permanent piece of art for Ipogea, a public art project based in Parabita (Lecce province) and overseen by curator Carmelo Cipriani. Previously, Arena was involved in Votiva, where he transformed devotional niches into artistic expressions. Mayor Stefano Prete believes contemporary art serves as a catalyst for revitalizing the region. The initiative, led by artistic director Giovanni Lamorgese, plans to extend its reach with Urbana for temporary exhibitions. Situated at Piazza della Vittoria, La Grotta includes two sizable vats made from Lecce stone, featuring neon lights inscribed with "Essere" (Being) and "Tempo" (Time), drawing on Heideggerian themes. Arena's creation seeks to reawaken history and reconsider the urban environment.
