Francesco Arena leads RAMO workshop-residency in Giulianova
RAMO – Ritratto a mano, a workshop-residency founded in 2014 in Abruzzo and curated by Giuliana Benassi, returned in 2021 with artist-tutor Francesco Arena. Organized by Angelo Bucciacchio and Giuseppe Pietroniro, the program focuses on artistic process as self-inquiry. The 2021 edition moved from the Ex Convento delle Clarisse in Caramanico Terme to the Royal Hotel in Giulianova, a seaside venue on the Adriatic. Benassi explained the shift responds to current historical conditions: isolation is no longer exceptional but widespread, prompting a need to interrogate emptiness and absence as spaces for reconstruction. Participants, selected via open call, created site-specific works through dialogue and engagement with the local territory. The resulting exhibition was installed in various hotel spaces and remained open throughout summer.
