Francesca Torzo's 'Chaosmos' at Triennale Milano
At Triennale Milano, architect Francesca Torzo (born 1975 in Padua) presents her first solo exhibition, 'Chaosmos,' curated by Joseph Grima. The title, borrowed from James Joyce's 'Finnegans Wake,' suggests chaos as part of the cosmos rather than its opposite. The exhibition features two custom-designed tents: a smaller triangular one in the first-floor atrium displaying a hypnotic video loop and photo collages, and a larger square tent with open vertices at the center of the impluvium, referencing Piero della Francesca's fresco 'Dream of Constantine.' Inside, objects and materials from eleven public and private projects (2001–2019) are displayed, including scale models, facade fragments, color compositions, and raw materials. Four horizontal fabric surfaces at the room's corners project drawings and photographs. Torzo, educated at TU Delft, ETSAB Barcelona, Accademia di Architettura Mendrisio, and IUAV Venice, recently completed the expansion of Z33 contemporary art center in Hasselt, Belgium, opening in March, for which she won the 2018 Piranesi Award.
