Francesca Rossi Appointed Director of Verona's New Unified Museum Hub

Verona has established a new unified museum hub (Polo Museale) and appointed Francesca Rossi as its director, effective from the new year. The 51-year-old Verona native returns home after serving as head of the Civico Gabinetto dei Disegni at Milan's Castello Sforzesco since December 2010, where she managed 28,000 drawings spanning the 15th to 20th centuries. Rossi's appointment consolidates leadership of Castelvecchio, the Galleria d'Arte Moderna, the Museo di Storia Naturale, the Archeologico, and city monuments under a single direction. Previously, these institutions were overseen separately by archaeologist Margherita Bolla and administrator Giuseppe Minciotti. Rossi began her career as a curator at Castelvecchio for 16 years, holds degrees in Literature from Padua and Art History from the Catholic University of Milan, and had a prior athletic career in river canoeing and mountain biking. The move aligns with the cultural revitalization agenda of Francesca Briani, Verona's Councillor for Culture, Tourism, Events, and Equal Opportunities, who took office in July 2017 after a five-year gap without a dedicated culture assessor. Briani has emphasized plans to enhance the city's historical and artistic heritage while also promoting contemporary art. Giuseppe Manni, a steel entrepreneur and prominent local patron, has welcomed the appointment.
