Francesca Piovesan's 'S-composizioni' at Gaggenau in Rome

exhibition · 2026-04-27

From November 22, 2021 to March 8, 2022, Gaggenau Design Elementi in Rome hosts 'S-composizioni', a solo exhibition by Francesca Piovesan curated by Sabino Maria Frassà. The show merges body art, off-camera photography, and sculpture: Piovesan uses mineral salts from her own body to create photographic imprints on film and glass surfaces. The new cycle 'Aniconico' features works on paper made from tessellated fragments—photographic traces of the artist's skin—evoking ancient Roman bichrome mosaics and the concept of temporal stratification. The title references the Eastern tradition of alluding to the divine without depiction. This is the fourth and final exhibition of the 'Extraordinario' cycle promoted by Gaggenau and CRAMUM, following 'Fiori invisibili' (July 2021) by TTOZOI. CRAMUM, a nonprofit founded by Frassà, supports innovative Italian contemporary artists. The collaboration between Gaggenau and CRAMUM emphasizes food and conviviality; chef Aleandro Polenti created dishes inspired by Piovesan's techniques, including sardine in saor from her native Friuli and a second course using squid ink to mimic fingerprints. Piovesan, born in Aviano (Pordenone) in 1981, won the CRAMUM Prize in 2015 and was selected to represent Italy at the Bornholm's Biennials for contemporary glass and ceramics in 2021.
