Francesca Grilli's Permanent Installation 'Borders' in Mantua
Francesca Grilli has designed a permanent installation named 'Borders' for Mantua, recognized as the Italian Capital of Culture in 2016. This artwork features two panoramic telescopes located at Bastione di Porta Catena and Lungolago Gonzaga. One telescope gazes upward, alluding to Andrea Mantegna's Camera degli Sposi in Palazzo Te, while the other focuses on the water, symbolizing the boundless unknown. This installation is part of the 'Un'opera per Mantova' initiative, mandated for all Italian Capitals of Culture by the Ministry's Directorate General for Art and Architecture. Mantua received this title in 2016 from Mibact. Following Mantua, Pistoia will take over in 2017. For 2018, ten cities have been shortlisted for consideration, with the jury led by Stefano Baia Curioni.
