Francesca Corona Appointed Director of Festival d'Automne in Paris

Francesca Corona, 43, has been named the new artistic director of the Festival d'Automne in Paris, becoming the first Italian to lead the prestigious festival. Corona previously co-directed Short Theatre in Rome and served as artistic consultant for Teatro India – Teatro di Roma, as well as directing Dansem in Marseille. She received the UBU Award in 2018. In an interview, Corona discussed her vision for the festival, emphasizing the relationship between performance and context, the importance of territory, and the festival's role in reimagining the city. She highlighted the 2022 edition's portrait of Marlene Monteiro Freitas, a new section called répertoire, and a public space project by Amanda Piña titled 'Fronterà / Procesion – Un rituale de Agua,' which involves 150 amateurs across six cultural institutions. The festival operates across 64 venues in Paris and its suburbs over nearly four months. Corona co-curated her first edition with outgoing director Marie Collin.
