Francesca Brugola on text as form and space in her artistic practice

artist · 2026-04-26

Francesca Brugola, born in 1996 in Carate Brianza, produces minimalist creations such as drawings, light installations, printed materials, and fragile sculptures. Her artwork reimagines ordinary items into surreal forms, fueled by a fascination with 'text as both form and space.' Without formal training, she delves into the architecture of language, engaging with linguistics and semiotics. Influenced by artists like Chiara Fumai, Shilpa Gupta, and Sophie Calle, Brugola is currently working on an audio installation at Palazzo dei Capitani in Ascoli Piceno from May to September and an audiovisual piece for Premio San Fedele in Milan. She earned her BA from Brera Academy and her MFA from Manchester School of Art in 2022, and participated in a residency at Cité Internationale des Arts in 2023.
