Frances Barth's Bushwick Exhibition Merges Abstract Painting with Digital Narrative Experiments

exhibition · 2026-04-22

From November 3 to December 17, 2017, the Silas Van Morisse Gallery in Brooklyn showcased new paintings by Frances Barth, created between 2011 and 2017. Her artwork features serene color fields paired with graphic elements, drawing inspiration from geological charts and topographical maps. Among her significant works are the triptychs CG (2016) and Olive (2017). Barth employs acrylic to achieve matte finishes, evident in pieces like Yellow Yellow (2016) and more personal works such as Genie (2014). She has also ventured into narrative art with the video End of Day, End of Day (2007), shown in 2010, and the animation Jonnie in the Lake (2016). The exhibition featured digital collages from the Com 1 through Com 5 series (2011-12) and works like Adobe Dream (2013).
