Franca Sozzani, Vogue Italia editor, dies at 66

Franca Sozzani, the legendary editor-in-chief of Vogue Italia for nearly thirty years, passed away on December 22, 2016. She was 66. Sozzani was known for using fashion storytelling to address social issues, such as plastic surgery and body image, through iconic editorials shot by photographers like Peter Lindbergh, Bruce Weber, and Steven Meisel. She received the Swarovski Award for Positive Change in London on December 5, 2016. Sozzani also served as president of the Fondazione dell'Istituto Europeo di Oncologia from 2013. Her son Francesco Carrozzini directed a documentary about her, 'Franca: Chaos and Creation,' which premiered at the Venice Film Festival. Sozzani began her career at Vogue Bambini in 1973 and held a degree in Philology. She was a board member of AltaRoma and supported young talent through the Who's on Next competition.
