Frac Normandie-Rouen Stages Nine Flaubert Bicentennial Exhibitions Across Normandy

The Frac Normandie-Rouen is kicking off celebrations for Gustave Flaubert's 200th birthday with nine exhibitions across Normandy, running from April to December 2021. Titled 'Déjouer Flaubert,' this project highlights Flaubert's literary impact through contemporary art. In Ry, 'Dépayser – Madame Bovary' features artists like Batia Suter and Corinne Mercadier, transforming local shop windows into a fictional landscape. Over at the Château de Bois-Guilbert, 'Dénaturaliser – Bouvard et Pécuchet' showcases works from Mark Dion and others in the sculpture garden. In October, Canteleu's municipal library will host 'Désacraliser – La Tentation de Saint-Antoine,' curated by Ludovic Burel, which uses the Frac’s collection. All exhibits are free, and the University of Rouen is also digitizing Flaubert's letters and works for online access.
