Frac Normandie Rouen’s Ninth Inventory Exhibition Showcases 2003–2004 Acquisitions

exhibition · 2026-04-23

Since its inception in 2011, the Frac Normandie Rouen has presented its collection in a meticulous order of acquisition. The ninth installment, L’Inventaire, volume 9, highlights artworks acquired in 2003 and 2004, displayed in its 1930s facility overlooking Rouen’s botanical garden. This inventory was launched by Director Véronique Souben to commemorate the Frac’s thirtieth anniversary. Notably, the volume focuses on photography, including Balthasar Burkhard’s La Vague (1995). The acquisition strategy, established by former director Marc Donnadieu (1999–2010), emphasizes regional identity and human representation. The exhibition features works by female artists such as Nancy Spero and Alice Anderson. In 2020, the Frac Normandie Rouen plans to merge with the Frac in Caen, prompting concerns about the future of this inventory, which requires three additional volumes to document acquisitions up to 2011.
