Frac Lorraine's 20th Anniversary Exhibition Features Labyrinthine Scenography by Soshiro Matsubara
In celebration of its 20th anniversary, the Frac Lorraine in Metz has enlisted Japanese artist Soshiro Matsubara to create the exhibition titled 'Presque partout' (Almost Everywhere), which will be on display until August 18, 2024. Matsubara's innovative design introduces new walls that establish a labyrinthine experience throughout the collections. The first floor showcases panels in cellular colors and chandeliers adorned with genital arabesques, while artworks are incorporated into what are termed 'blood walls.' The upper level features a sterile white cube that visitors navigate in overshoes, providing a stark contrast to the lower floor. Artists such as Meret Oppenheim, Sarah Rapson, and Nina Könnemann are included, prompting a reevaluation of conventional display techniques and exploring the history and identity of the Frac.
