Fra Angelico Renaissance Exhibition at Prado Museum Madrid

The Museo del Prado in Madrid is hosting a major exhibition titled 'Fra Angelico y los inicios del Renacimiento en Florencia' as part of its bicentennial celebrations. The show focuses on the Italian Quattrocento, a period underrepresented in the museum's permanent collection. Curated by Carl Brandon Strehlke, emeritus curator of the Philadelphia Museum of Art, the exhibition centers on Fra Angelico's 'Annunciation' altarpiece (Pala del Prado), recently restored. It explores connections among artists like Masaccio, Masolino, Brunelleschi, Ghiberti, and Donatello in early 15th-century Florence. Loans come from major museums in Italy, Europe, and the United States. The exhibition includes works from the Museo di San Marco in Florence, directed by Stefano Casciu, who coordinated loans with Prado director Miguel Falomir. In exchange, a Robert Campin painting will travel to Florence in late 2019. The show runs until September 15, 2019.
