Four Prague Artists Explore Memory at z2o Sara Zanin Gallery in Rome
The exhibition 'Hidden Beauty' at z2o Sara Zanin Gallery in Rome features four Prague-based artists: Krištof Kintera, Hanna Hulačová, Pavla Scerancová, and Richard Wiesner. Curated by Kintera and Marina Dacci, the show extends beyond the gallery into commercial spaces in the Ponte district. The artists explore memory through appropriation, using objects like modernist desks, television sets, statuettes, trays, and telescopes. Kintera's work focuses on electrical wiring to evoke plant life, with mixed results: a house model on a cable root is too naive, but a totem of stacked cushions is conceptually strong. Hulačová presents drawings and sculptures with metaphysical composure; her faceless busts blend archaic and sci-fi aesthetics, while shiny trays suggest space artifacts. Scerancová intervenes directly on found objects, such as a sewing machine encased in a steel structure replicating her grandmother's body, and a ceramic bird supported by a constructivist armor. Wiesner encapsulates fragments of objects from an elderly man's apartment in transparent squares, creating an effect of aged concretion and futurism. The exhibition runs until May 2018.
