Four Photographers Illuminate Mountain Majesty at Brescia Photo Festival
The exhibition 'Luce della Montagna' (Light of the Mountain) at Museo di Santa Giulia in Brescia, curated by Filippo Maggia and produced by Fondazione Brescia Musei, brings together 120 images from four photographers across two centuries. The show is part of the sixth edition of the Brescia Photo Festival, themed 'Capitale' in honor of Bergamo and Brescia as Italian Capital of Culture 2023. Featured are 40 black-and-white alpine exploration shots by Vittorio Sella (including an 1891 oval of seracs from Vedretta del Mandrone), 40 photographs by Peruvian Martin Chambi depicting Machu Picchu and Andean communities, 30 works by American environmentalist pioneer Ansel Adams celebrating the American West, and 20 large-format (150×200 cm) color images by Axel Hütte, including an unpublished series of the Brescian Alps commissioned by Fondazione Brescia Musei. Maggia describes Hütte as a 'cultivator of the analog image, patient and tenacious in the search for the perfect photograph' whose works are 'paintings more than photographs' evoking 'peace and silence.' The exhibition aims to create a symphony of mountains, inviting viewers to listen and immerse themselves in the landscape.
