exhibition · 2026-04-22

Four distinct exhibitions opened in New York galleries in December 2003. 'Urban Baroque' at Plane Space, curated by Lisa Ivorian Gray, featured works by Ian Dawson, Anya Gallaccio, Steve McQueen, and Drew Lowenstein. Gallaccio presented decaying floral arrangements under glass, while McQueen showed C-prints of rotting rags. Dawson created sculptures from melted industrial containers, and Lowenstein combined abstraction with graffiti-inspired calligraphy. Jeremy Blake's DVD 'Reading Ossie Clark' played at Feigen Contemporary, featuring narration by Clarissa Dalrymple alongside abstract animation. At Cue Art Foundation, Aristides Logothetis presented paintings and sculptures referencing DNA, fashion, and 1950s decor, curated by William Fagaly. Augusto Arbizo's 'Rise and Fall' at Michael Steinberg Fine Art featured large glossy canvases blending landscape and abstraction. Plane Space is located at 102 Charles Street, Feigen Contemporary at 535 W 20 Street, Cue Art Foundation at 511 W 25 Street, and Michael Steinberg at 526 W 26 Street. The shows ran through various dates in December 2003 and January 2004.
