Four New York gallery exhibitions showcase diverse approaches to painting and installation in December 2004

In December 2004, four exhibitions debuted in New York galleries. At Max Protetch Gallery, David Reed's new paintings, on view until December 23, exhibit slick, layered techniques. Garth Evans' watercolors, showcased at Lori Bookstein Gallery until January 7, highlight geometric forms with earthy applications. Elizabeth Harris Gallery features Lisa Hoke's installation "The Gravity of Color," utilizing found paper cups and paint-filled beakers, available until December 23. Meanwhile, Allan Stone Gallery presented Alfred Leslie's early abstract works from 1951 to 1962, on display until December 22. The exhibitions drew parallels among various artistic influences, including Schongauer, Sharf, Gaudí, Seurat, Klimt, de Kooning, and Kline.
