Four new graphic novels for August: from feminist history to Orwell adaptation
Artribune recommends four graphic novels for August 2022. 'La caduta del patriarcato' by Marta Breen and Jenny Jordah (Einaudi, €13.90) humorously traces sexism from Aristotle to Woody Allen, targeting young readers. 'Going Nowhere' by Holdenaccio (Bao Publishing, €21) is a biographical fiction about singer-songwriter Elliott Smith, blending real events like his 1998 Oscar performance with imaginary elements. 'La Rosa armata' by Costanza Durante and Elisa Menini (minimum fax, €18) tells the story of a young woman in the 1944 Langhe region who joins the Resistance to save her pregnant friend. '1984' by Jean-Christophe Derrien and Rémi Torregrossa (Star Comics, €13.90) is a faithful black-and-white graphic adaptation of George Orwell's dystopian novel, originally listed among Le Monde's 100 best books of the 20th century.
