Four New Artemisia Gentileschi Works Emerge in Naples Exhibition

exhibition · 2026-04-27

An exhibition at Gallerie d'Italia in Naples, which will be open until March 19, showcases four newly attributed pieces to Artemisia Gentileschi, bringing her total recognized works to 65. Curated by Antonio Ernesto Denunzio and Giuseppe Porzio in collaboration with the National Gallery of London and others, the exhibit emphasizes Gentileschi's partnerships with local artists during her time in Naples from 1630 to 1654, with a break for a visit to London from 1638 to 1640. Among the newly recognized pieces, The Triumph of Galatea (c. 1650) is now thought to have been commissioned by Don Antonio Ruffo, while Susanna and the Elders (1652) has been reattributed from Cavallino to Gentileschi. Additionally, two paintings from the Ringling Museum are now acknowledged as her original works, deepening insights into her collaborative techniques.
