Four Major Auctions to Watch: Warhol, Renaissance, Pollock, Rockefeller

A roundup of four upcoming auctions highlights key sales in London, Arizona, and New York. On June 28, Sotheby's London will offer an Andy Warhol self-portrait from 1963-64, estimated at £5-7 million, appearing at auction for the first time since the artist's death in 1987. On July 6, Christie's London presents eight Renaissance cassone panels from Florence and Siena, including works by Giovanni Toscani, the Master of Charles III of Durazzo, and Lo Scheggia, with Toscani's piece estimated at £600,000-900,000. In Scottsdale, Arizona, J.Levine Auction & Appraisal will sell a rare, lost Jackson Pollock gouache from circa 1949-50 on June 20, consigned from the estate of Jennifer Gordon, a friend of Clement Greenberg and Hazel Guggenheim; the auction house spent a year authenticating the work, though the Pollock-Krasner Foundation does not authenticate paintings. Finally, the estate of David Rockefeller will auction the Peggy & David Rockefeller collection of over 2,000 multidisciplinary works at Christie's New York starting spring 2018, with proceeds benefiting charity.
