Four Lucanian Towns Launch ACAMM Museum Network Ahead of Matera 2019

institutional · 2026-05-05

Four small towns in Basilicata—Aliano, Castronuovo Sant'Andrea, Moliterno, and Montemurro—have joined forces to create ACAMM, an integrated museum and cultural heritage system launching in 2017. The initiative aims to synergize existing cultural assets including galleries, libraries, archives, and foundations, positioning peripheral geography as a strength in the lead-up to Matera's 2019 European Capital of Culture. On January 10, 2017, mayors and key figures will present the project at the Accademia di San Luca in Rome, with interventions from Marta Ragozzino (director of the Basilicata Museum Pole), Marcello Pittella (president of Basilicata Region), Mariano Schiavone (director general of APT Basilicata), and Giampaolo D'Andrea (cabinet chief at MIBACT). The ACAMM logo was designed by Mauro Bubbico. Upcoming events include the inauguration of a contemporary art collection in Moliterno on January 13 featuring works by Tapies and Hartung; an Assadour graphic retrospective in Aliano through January 31; a Max Bill graphic retrospective at the international graphic museum from March 11; and a Franco Gentilini retrospective in Aliano from March 12. Future programming includes talks with Umberto Galimberti, Franco Arminio's festival La luna e i calanchi, and Mimmo Paladino. Art historian Peppino Appella, who has fostered links between the region and contemporary art for forty years, is among the project's protagonists.
